About Digital Marketing Radio

Thanks for checking out the ‘About’ page!

It’s amazing that ‘About’ pages tend to be one of the most popular pages on a website, so I’d better try to make it good! 😊

I’m David Bain and I launched Digital Marketing Radio back in 2014 as something that would combine my passions for podcasting and staying on top of the latest digital marketing trends.

However, this wasn’t my first taste of podcasting. I’ve actually been podcasting since 2006(!), but back then I only ‘played’ with it. Nowadays, as well as publishing Digital Marketing Radio, I actually produce podcasts for several other brands. (If you want to find out more about that, check out CastingCred.com.)

Digital Marketing Radio has been great to me over the years. By 2017 I had interviewed many of the world’s leading marketers – people like Rand Fishkin, Larry Kim and Roberto Blake.

However, even though the podcast was quite successful – getting around 20,000 downloads per month – as I was so busy in other areas of my life, I decided to put DMR on hold.

While Digital Marketing Radio was ‘on the back burner’ I didn’t sit still. I hosted mega livestreams, produced podcasts for other brands and published a book called ‘Marketing Now’.

I started hosting podcasts and producing virtual summits for other brands too – while this was great, it seemed to also push the prospect of relaunching Digital Marketing Radio further down the road.

Three years had passed since I last published an episode of DMR. The year was 2020. No more excuses! It was time to re-launch!

I wanted to do it right though. First, I revisited the brand. I liked the ‘Digital Marketing Radio’ name but I felt that the existing brand identity was a little weak. However, thanks to a new snazzy pear of blue glasses I now had a memorable ‘personal icon’. I asked a designer to come up with a new logo that incorporated my specs, a sound wave, some bright colouring and a subtle inclusion of a microphone if possible – and I was really happy with the final result!

The next step was to revisit the show structure. I didn’t want to change a great deal – I liked the old format, but I wanted to freshen it up a little. Hopefully you agree that my ‘Next on the List’ and ‘Magical Marketer’ sections are worthwhile additions!

Getting on that horse again and recording that first new episode with the wonderful AJ Wilcox was an absolute pleasure. I slightly adjusted the format further over the next 10 episodes and now have a structure that I’m really happy with.

I hope now that it’s only onwards and upwards! More great conversations. More fun. More new friends and great connections to be made. I really hope that if you’re reading this that you’ll come along for the ride too – as a listener and perhaps even as a future guest!

As I say at the end of all the new episodes – “until we meet again – stay hungry, stay foolish and stay subscribed! Aloha!”
